# Browsing and search

> Find artifacts and packages in the web UI.

Source: https://docs.telesphorepo.com/repositories/browsing-and-search/

The web UI is part of the server binary. Open the server URL in a browser. You see the repositories that your account can read. Visitors who are not logged in see the repositories that allow anonymous reads.

## Browse a repository

Click a repository name to open its page. The page shows:

- the format, with badges for anonymous reads and Nexus mirrors
- for a Debian repository, the number of index rebuilds that wait (`pending`)
- a **Usage** section with copy-ready snippets for the format (Maven, Gradle, apt, curl), filled with the real server URL
- a table of files with path, size, type and update time

Type in **Filter by path prefix** to narrow the table. The filter matches the start of the path. For example, `com/acme/` lists everything under that group. Click a path to download the file. The table loads 100 rows at a time. Click **Load more** to continue.

## Search

Open **Search** in the navigation. Type at least 3 characters and press Enter.

- Search matches any part of a path, not only the start. `acme-core` finds `com/acme/acme-core/1.0/acme-core-1.0.jar`.
- Search covers every repository that you can read.
- Each result shows the repository and the path. Click the repository name to open it.
- Results load 50 at a time. Click **Load more** for the next page.

The same search is available as an API call:

```sh
curl -fs -u ci:READ_TOKEN \
  'https://repo.example.com/api/search?q=acme-core&limit=20'
```

Add `repo=<name>` to search one repository. The response is `{"items": [...], "next": "..."}`. Pass `next` as `after` to get the next page. See [HTTP API](/reference/http-api/).

## Gotchas

- **Fewer than 3 characters.** The search button stays off, and the API refuses the query. The search index works on groups of 3 characters.
- **Private repositories.** Search never shows files from a repository that you cannot read.
- **Debian index files.** Search lists packages in the `pool/` tree. It does not list the generated index files (`Packages`, `Release`). See [Debian](/repositories/debian/).
- **Prefix filter is not search.** The filter on a repository page cannot match the middle of a path. Use Search for that.
